Join me for 2 Saturdays of Urban Sketching fun at 2 different local coffee shops in Charlotte: Summit Coffee and Not Just Coffee.

Description:
Each session starts with everyone ordering their favorite drink and food (included in the tuition). We'll sit together as I introduce you to sketching techniques, tips, and tools. We'll begin by sketching our drinks and food, then move on to capturing the cafe's interior, logos, and people etc finishing our sketches with watercolor. I’ll also teach you the ultimate hidden technique of being able to do all of this while still being able to enjoy your drink and food 🙂

I've been sketching in coffee shops for over 25 years, and it continues to bring me joy each and every time. I hope to share this joy with you, helping you incorporate sketching into your coffee breaks for a relaxing and enjoyable experience.

What is included:

• A drink/food that we will be sketching each week.

  • 1 drink of your choice each week. A Cold/Hot Latte, Coffee, Tea, and other drinks (Small). Does not include specialty drinks and alcohol.

  • 1 Pastry each week of your choice from the provided selections by the coffee shop.

• Reserved space for us to all sit together and sketch for 3 hours

• Gratuity/ Service charge for the coffee shop

Workshop details:

• 10AM: Meet at the coffee shop. Meet and greet, go over the workshop details

• 10:15: Live demo of food and drink Part 1/ Ink

• 10:30: Everyone order their food/drinks. Everyone to work on 1st part of exercise. I will come around and work with everyone 1 on 1

• 11:00: Live demo of surrounding interior approach Part 2/ Ink. Everyone to work on 2nd part of exercise. 1 on 1 with everyone

• 11:30: Live demo part 3/ Color + Finishing

• 11:45: Everyone to work on part 3

• 12:45: Wrap up. Group talk and photo

• 1pm: End of workshop

Cancellations: 

If you change your mind you may cancel for a 100% refund by June 30th. 

From July 1st, I’m sorry but no refunds can be provided.

In case we do not reach the minimal amount of students required for this class, the class will need to be cancelled and the full amount will be refunded.

 

FAQ

Fill there be parking at the coffee shops?

Yes. Each location will have enough free parking for everyone.

What Art Supplies should I bring for the workshop?

I ask that you bring something to draw on, something to draw with and something to paint colors with. If you have a sketchbook, a pen, and a small watercolor kit with a water brush, that would be ideal. If you would like to use other mediums, that is fine too.
I also put together a more detailed list of the tools I will use for my demonstrations.

I have never drawn inside a coffee shop and I’m nervous but can I join?

Absolutely!! I think you’ll be surprised at how quickly you’ll become comfortable sketching inside a coffee shop, starting with your food/drinks and then the surrounding environment. You will also be surrounded by other artists which will bring another set of comfort and joy in sketching together.

What level of art experience do I need for this workshop?

This class is open for ALL levels - from a complete beginner starting out in the sketching journey, to someone that has been drawing for many years. I think there will be something to learn and take away for everyone. Just be sure to come with an open mind, a willingness to try something new and to just to have fun.
